Ministry Training Cohort

Seek a greater worship of Jesus through theological study and practical ministry experience.

The aim of the Ministry Training Cohort (MTC) is that all participants would grow in their grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus (2 Pet. 3:18), that they would be more fully formed disciples (Col. 1:28-29), and that they would be further equipped and encouraged to serve the local church wherever that may be (Eph. 4:12-16).  Therefore, the MTC has two major objectives:

  1. Training men and women to do the work of ministry in the local church.

  2. Providing robust theological training anchored in practical, local ministry.

Duration and Time Commitment

The Ministry Training Cohort will take place over a 1 year commitment (over a fall and spring semester)* with the possibility to extend at the end of the year. The participant will be asked for ~8-10 hours per week between study and hands on experience. Practically, the MTC will consist of cohort style learning, individual study, and one-on-one mentorship with an identified existing leader within in our local church, in a specific area of interest. Enrollment will be “rolling” on a semester basis.

*Fall semester will run from August through December. Spring semester will run from January through May. Summers (June - July) will be off.

Programmatic Elements
The Ministry Training Cohort consists of holistic theological training. Roughly half of the participants’ time will be given to theological education and the other half to practical ministry. Our hope is to teach the participants to quickly apply what they are learning to the local church context, resulting in maturation as disciples.

Grimké College (Theological Study)
The MTC will be partnered with Grimké College for the purpose of theological education. Grimké College courses are 8 weeks long. The cohort will meet every other week to participate in collaborative classroom discussions and teaching. Over the course of the year, participants will work through 4 classes together. These courses will have practical ministry assignments in each class that participants will complete alongside their identified mentor in the context of our local church. The King’s Church will cover costs associated with Grimké College for all MTC participants.

Grimké College offers degrees and certificates upon completion. It begins with certificates offered for 4 courses completed, a Bachelor’s for 8 courses completed, and a Master’s for all 12 courses completed (listed below). Cohort participants are encouraged to finish any remaining courses after their time in the MTC:

*The MTC will begin with Theology I this August and complete a certificate of Theology through year 1 of the program.

They will meet with their leader on alternate weeks from when they meet for Grimké College (at least twice a month).

The application window for the Fall 2024 Ministry Training Cohort is now closed. Applications for the Spring 2025 MTC will be by invitation based on capacity.
