The GOSPEL AND adoption

rOMANS 15:1-7

Acts 17:6–7: “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also… saying that there is another king, Jesus.”

Main Idea: We are called to ordinary gospel-driven lives to the glory of God.

I. We Love Our Neighbors (15:1–2)

Romans 15:1–2:We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up”

II. We Resolve to Appear Foolish for Christ’s Sake (15:3)

Romans 15:3:For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.”

1 Corinthians 1:18: “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

III. We Holdfast to the Sufficiency of Scripture (15:4)

Romans 15:4: For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope

1 Peter 3:15: “In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”

1 Corinthians 15:3–4:“Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

IV. We Live in Christ Exalting Harmony (15:5-6)

Romans 15:5–6: May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

V. We Welcome One Another as Christ has Welcomed Us (15:7)

Romans 15:7: Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you

Conclusion: For the Glory of God (15:7b)

We exist to see a greater worship of Jesus through declaring and displaying the gospel.
