Pastoral Ministry
1 Peter 5:1-4
Main Idea: Faithful pastors are a gift to the church & a picture of the Chief Shepherd.
6 observations on Pastoral Ministry:
Pastors serve in a plurality. 5:1a: “So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder…”
Pastors serve in the context of suffering. 5:1b: “... and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed”
Pastors shepherd the flock. 5:2a:“... shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight”
Pastors are called men. 5:2b: “... not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly”
Pastors are examples. 5:3: “... not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.”
Pastors are under-shepherds to the Chief Shepherd. 5:4: “And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.”
