Tips for Working through the Order of Worship
We encourage that someone takes the lead in prompting through the prayers, reading, and discussion questions below, as many sections will have a “leader” and a response by “everyone.” Accordingly, each participant is encouraged to follow along on their own device (or displaying this on a screen everyone can see). *Underlined Text is meant to be read together, corporately. Links to the songs have been provided if they would be useful for singing together.
ORDER OF WORSHIP
CALL TO WORSHIP
Psalm 56:8-13
Leader:
8 You have kept count of my tossings;
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your book?
9 Then my enemies will turn back
in the day when I call.
This I know, that God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
Everyone:
12 I must perform my vows to you, O God;
I will render thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered my soul from death,
yes, my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life.

(Citizens arrangement)

Lyrics:
Be thou my vision O Lord of my heart
Not be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence, my light
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise
Thou my inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only are first in my heart
High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art
Great God of Heaven, my victory won
May I reach heavens joy, O bright Heaven's Sun
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all
THE APOSTLES’ CREED
*The Apostles’ Creed is one of the oldest, faithful, concise summaries of the basics of Christian belief. The Creeds of the church are meant to instruct in basic doctrine and guard against false belief. We regularly recite The Apostles’ Creed together at The King’s Church to remind us of the common confession that unites us and the Church in every place and in every age together.
Everyone:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*meaning the universal Christian church (all believers in Jesus Christ)
SCRIPTURE READING
Psalm 130
1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2 O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!
3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared.
5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.
8 And he will redeem Israel
from all his iniquities.
Leader: This is the Word of the Lord
Everyone: Thanks be to God!
SERMON
“Walking in Forgiveness, Waiting in Faith” (Psalm 130)
DISCUSSION & PRAYER
Based on Psalm 130 & Pastor Ian’s Sermon, discuss the following questions:
When is the last time you “cried out from the depths” over your sin? What would it look like for you to honestly approach the Lord in confession this week?
How are you handling the "waiting” of the Christian life & of this unique circumstance we find ourselves in?
What hope from Psalm 130 do you need to cling to closely this week? How can you remind yourself of this truth & hope daily?
Spend a few minutes praying together for the following:
Pray for those who are sick to be healed & for those who are on the front lines of caring for the sick (especially for the many medical professionals at The King’s Church)
Pray that we would be a community that walks in forgiveness & waits in faith.
Pray for those who don’t know Christ to be awakened to their need for the gospel due to this crisis.
Pray that the Lord would continue open our eyes for opportunities to declare and display the gospel to others in this season.
CONFESSION OF SIN, COMMUNION, & ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*The Lord’s Supper is a meal instituted by Jesus for his followers to specifically remember his death on our behalf (see Matt. 26:26-28 & 1 Cor. 11: 23-26). Partaking in the bread and the cup together is a reminder of where our hope is rooted, and prepares us for the marriage supper of the Lamb that is to come in the New Heavens & the New Earth. Accordingly, only Christians (and Christians with a clear conscience) should partake in this meal. A confession of sin & assurance of pardon bookend communion below to capture our need and response to the death of Jesus.
CONFESSION OF SIN
Leader: Father, we are quick to speak but inattentive to your Word. Though you dismiss our iniquities, we fail to recognize your mercy.
Everyone: We confess our sin and failure to wait upon you, Lord. Enlighten our souls with anticipation; more than watchman for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.
COMMUNION
Leader:
The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.
In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Psalm 86:4-5)
Leader: Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
Everyone: Thanks be to God!
SINGING
Jesus Is Better
(The Austin Stone)
Click on the Spotify logo to listen to the full song in the app
Lyrics:
There is no other so sure and steady
My hope is held in your hand
When castles crumble and breath is fleeting,
upon this rock I will stand
Upon this rock I will stand
Glory, glory, we have no other king
But Jesus Lord of all
We raise the anthem, our loudest praises ring
We crown Him Lord of all
Your kindly rule has shattered and broken the curse of sin's tyranny
My life is hidden 'neath Heaven's shadow, Your crimson flood covers me
Your crimson flood covers me
Glory, glory, we have no other king
But Jesus Lord of all
Raise the anthem, our loudest praises ring
We crown Him Lord of all
In all my sorrows, Jesus is better
Make my heart believe
In all my victories, Jesus is better
Make my heart believe
Than any comfort, Jesus is better
Make my heart believe
More than all riches, Jesus is better
Make my heart believe
Our souls declaring, Jesus is better
Make my heart believe
Our song eternal, Jesus is better
Make my heart believe
Glory, glory, we have no other king
But Jesus Lord of all
Glory, glory, we have no other king
But Jesus Lord of all
We raise the anthem, our loudest praises ring
We crown Him Lord of all
BENEDICTION
Jude 24-25: Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Everyone: Thanks be to God!
GIVING
In this unique & difficult time, it's important to remember that the Lord is still at work. We anticipate there being many ministry needs and opportunities in the coming days and weeks. As you are able, consider giving to support the mission & vision of The King’s Church.
